This ancient breed was brought to England by the Romans.
A heavy bird with a large, square frame, can be found in both single or rose comb, and all have an extra toe, making them one of very few breeds which have five toes..
They come in many colour verities, but most commonly found in NZ are the Silver Grey Dorking, with single combs.. all of which should have an extra toe on each foot, making them one of very few breeds which have five toes..
Known as a meat breed of premium breast meat, Roosters take awhile to mature but once they get there, they are of a magnificent stature & are totally different in their looks to their plainer female counterparts!
The Silver Dorking hens are good layers, of chalky white, oval shaped eggs - and seldom if ever go broody *****
